What is a Solar Battery?
A Solar Battery is an energy storage system that saves excess electricity generated by your solar panels for later use, providing power at night, during cloudy days, or during power outages, thereby increasing self-sufficiency, offering back-up power and can eliminate electricity bills.

Solar Batteries stores energy as Direct Current (DC), which is converted to Alternating Current (AC) by an inverter to power your home, maximising the use of your own solar power instead of sending it back to the grid for a deteriorating and insignificant feed-in tariff.

The sooner you install a battery, the better, for example, if you install a Solar Battery before April 30th, you can obtain a subsidy of $9,853.20 in Small-scale Tradable Certificates* (STCs referred to as rebates or subsidies) on a 30K/w battery system.
​
However, changes to the Federal STC rebate scheme will reduce the STCs on Battery installations every six months.
The sooner you install a Battery, the better!
The discounts are aimed to maintain around a 30% discount for a range of battery systems at each capacity level. The STC factor will taper according to the amount of capacity installed:

From 0 kWh up to 14 kWh (inclusive): STC factor applied at 100%.

Every kWh greater than 14 and up to 28 kWh (inclusive): STC factor applied at 60%.

Every kWh greater than 28 and up to 50kWh (inclusive): STC factor applied at 15%.
When it comes to maximising your subsidy, the sooner you install a battery, the better. The table below sets out the tapering STCs per kWh applicable.
